Does Homeowners Insurance Cover a Roof Replacement?

Homeowners insurance protects you and your home in the event unexpected damage occurs. Depending on the extent and cause of the damage, your insurance may cover the cost of a partial or full roof replacement.

Typically, any structural damage to your home will be covered by insurance. Natural or sudden accidental events like a severe storm that damages your roof or strong winds that topple a tree onto your home likely qualify for replacement coverage. General wear and tear roofs encounter over their lifespan usually won’t be covered by your insurance policy.

Working With a Roofer While Filing an Insurance Claim

Filing an insurance claim for roof damages can be a lengthy process, which is why being prepared and having the right resources available can streamline your claim. Our team is available to help answer questions and provide the best next steps for repairing or replacing your roof.

Step 1: Roof Inspection

One of our project estimators will come to your home and provide a comprehensive roof inspection. We’ll assess the damage, take photos and videos, and give you an detailed quote for all necessary repairs or recommend a full roof replacement, depending on the extent of the damage. We may put a tarp over the damaged area to prevent water leaking or further damage as a temporary solution before repairs are done.

Step 2: Contact Insurance Company

Call your insurance representative or contact your insurance company to start a claim. While we can’t directly work with your insurance company, we’re happy to sit with you while you talk to your insurance agent to provide clarity or support.

Step 3: Meet With Insurance Adjuster

After your initial call with the insurance agent, an adjuster will typically visit your home to assess the damages in person. Graves Brothers will meet with you and the adjuster on-site to discuss the roof damages and proposed solutions, including the cost of the repairs or replacement.

Step 4: Reimbursement & Roof Repairs

If your insurance company accepts the claim, you’ll typically receive reimbursed funds within 30-60 days. Upon acceptance, we’ll repair or replace your roof to get your home back in working order.
